Banda Aceh, October 14, 2026 – The Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), welcomed an educational visit from SMAN 1 Ingin Jaya, Aceh Besar, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The visit was attended by 30 students accompanied by six teachers, providing an opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge of chemistry and its applications in everyday life.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to become familiar with the academic environment of the Chemistry Department of FMIPA USK, including its laboratory facilities and various activities that support learning and scientific development. Through the laboratory tour, students gained insights into laboratory equipment, practical activities, and the application of chemical concepts they had previously learned at school.
The visit also offered an engaging learning experience through scientific demonstrations. Students observed chemical phenomena firsthand and learned how scientific concepts can be explained through experiments. This experience is expected to stimulate their curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and foster greater interest in studying science.
The activity served as an introduction to higher education for secondary school students. By experiencing the university environment and observing laboratory activities directly, students were encouraged to pursue further education and explore various academic opportunities and career pathways in science, particularly in chemistry.
Beyond providing an enriching out-of-classroom learning experience, the visit also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting contextual, experiential, and experiment-based learning. Furthermore, the activity reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through educational collaboration between higher education institutions and secondary schools to broaden access to scientific knowledge and learning experiences.
Through school visits such as this, the Chemistry Department of FMIPA USK continues to introduce science to younger generations while strengthening the role of universities as centers of education, scientific advancement, and community engagement. The experience is expected to inspire students of SMAN 1 Ingin Jaya to develop their academic potential, cultivate an appreciation for science, and prepare themselves for future educational opportunities and the challenges of scientific and technological development.
