Banda Aceh, August 29, 2026, The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), held a PKM and Essay Workshop on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. WIB. The workshop aimed to enhance students’ understanding and skills in preparing Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa/PKM) proposals and developing creative, critical, and innovative essays.
The event began with participant registration, an opening session led by the master of ceremonies, the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, and the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya. The opening session continued with remarks from the Organizing Committee Chair, the Chair of the Chemistry Student Association (HMK), and the Head of the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Khairi, S.Si., M.Si.
Understanding Strategies for Developing PKM Proposals
The first session featured Dr. Imam Maulana from Generasi Edukasi Nanggroe Aceh as the PKM speaker. During his presentation, participants gained insights into the fundamentals of PKM proposal development, including strategies for developing ideas with strong creative and innovative value and the potential to be transformed into competitive proposals.
Following the presentation, participants took part in a discussion and short practice session. This session provided an opportunity for students to develop their ideas and discuss various aspects related to the preparation of PKM proposals.
The morning session continued with a quiz, followed by the presentation of certificates and prizes. The workshop then resumed in the afternoon with an ice-breaking session designed to create a more interactive and engaging learning atmosphere.
Developing Ideas into High-Quality Essays
The second session focused on essay writing and was delivered by Rafi Atallah from Youth Ranger Indonesia Regional Aceh. In this session, participants learned about the process of developing ideas and transforming them into well-structured, engaging essays supported by strong arguments.
Rafi Atallah highlighted the importance of identifying relevant ideas, developing them systematically, and presenting arguments effectively in written form. The session was followed by a discussion and short practice exercise, allowing participants to apply the concepts they had learned by developing their ideas into essay drafts.
The participants demonstrated considerable enthusiasm throughout the workshop, particularly during the discussion sessions, where they had opportunities to share their ideas and receive feedback on the development of their writing.
The PKM and Essay Workshop concluded with a quiz, the presentation of certificates and prizes, a group photo session, and closing remarks from the organizing committee.
Through this workshop, participants are expected not only to understand the fundamentals of PKM proposal development and essay writing but also to be able to transform creative and innovative ideas into systematic, well-argued, and competitive academic works. The workshop also served as a platform for students to strengthen their academic skills and prepare themselves to participate in a wider range of scientific and writing competitions at various levels.
