BANDA ACEH – The Chemistry Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) welcomed an educational and field study visit from SMAIT Nurul Fikri Boarding School Aceh on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The visit, attended by approximately 80 students, provided participants with an opportunity to explore the world of chemistry and gain firsthand learning experiences in a university academic and laboratory environment.
Carrying the theme “Getting Closer to the World of Science and Future Technology,” the activity was designed to introduce students to science through direct and experiential learning. During the visit, the students were introduced to the Chemistry Department of FMIPA USK, including its laboratory environment and various activities related to chemistry education and experimentation.
A laboratory visit was one of the main activities of the program. The students received explanations about laboratory activities and facilities that support the learning process in the Chemistry Department. By observing the laboratory environment firsthand, the students gained a better understanding of how scientific concepts learned at school can be further explored through experimental activities at the university level.
The students’ enthusiasm grew during a science demonstration entitled “Fire Hand” or “Fire Bubble.” The experiment attracted considerable attention as it presented a fire-related phenomenon directly in an interactive learning environment. Through the demonstration, the students were encouraged to observe a scientific phenomenon while gaining a better understanding of how chemistry can be explored through engaging and practical experiments.
The Fire Hand/Fire Bubble demonstration also provided the students with a different learning experience. Rather than simply watching the demonstration, they were introduced to the scientific phenomenon behind the activity, allowing them to connect concepts learned at school with practical experiences in a university laboratory setting.
In addition to the experimental activities, the visit provided an opportunity for students to gain a closer look at academic life within the Chemistry Department of FMIPA USK. The experience is expected to stimulate their curiosity and interest in chemistry while giving them a broader perspective on opportunities to pursue further education in science-related fields at the university level.
For the Chemistry Department of FMIPA USK, the visit represents an opportunity to introduce chemistry to younger generations through a more engaging, interactive, and experience-based approach. The students’ presence in the laboratory also provided a platform to demonstrate that chemistry is not limited to theoretical concepts but is closely connected to various phenomena and technologies encountered in everyday life.
The educational and field study visit is expected to provide a meaningful experience for the students of SMAIT Nurul Fikri Boarding School Aceh while encouraging them to further develop their interest in science and technology. Through their direct experience at the Chemistry Department of FMIPA USK, the students are expected to gain a deeper appreciation of chemistry and greater motivation to consider science as one of the pathways for their future education.
